Thanks to the extraordinary outpouring of public passion against the Senate Immigration Bill—unprecedented in the nation’s history—the Senate bill failed a cloture vote a few minutes ago and Senate Majority Leader Reid withdrew the bill from further consideration, thus effectively killing the ill-considered and poorly-drawn Senate Immigration Bill.

I can’t tell you how many genuinely helpful calls were made by WeNeedAFence.com supporters and how many excellent reports you sent back concerning those calls. The number is simply too big to estimate, but they did the job!
The status quo of illegal immigration remains intolerable, and it is now incumbent upon us to begin to carefully and openly communicate to the House and Senate what an immigration reform bill that we can support would look like. That will take considerable effort on our part over the next several months or maybe even longer, but in the meantime, we send our best wishes for a wonderful celebration of our national birthday next Wednesday. Why is a fence the right solution? [LEARN MORE]- A secure, state-of-the-art border fence must be one element of any comprehensive effort to address the illegal immigration problem. Similar fences in Israel have reduced terrorist attacks by up to 95%.
- Until the border is secured and the tide of illegal immigration is stemmed, proposals to adjust immigration quotas, whether up or down, are doomed to ineffectiveness.
- A border fence is entirely compatible with a guest worker program. In fact, a guest worker program would be reduced to irrelevance without such a fence.
